Tough afternoon in Kilmarnock. Poppy protest, what’s new?

That was a tough game yesterday afternoon down in Kilmarnock, so it was a great victory and another three points in the bank. We know exactly how Derek Mc Innes will have his team play, we know it will certainly be physical, and the emphasis will be to get the ball in the air as much as possible. Mc Innes was exactly the same at Aberdeen, more thuggery than skilful football, so it came as no surprise when we heard the Celtic team, no CCV, Kyogo, or Valle, with Adam Idah leading the line, and Liam Scales and Greg Taylor back in the left side of our back four. It’s well beyond time to get rid of artificial pitches in the SPL, that pitch is a leveller for Kilmarnock, good players want to play on grass, I wonder how many players have turned down signing for Kilmarnock because of the plastic pitch.

We have to give great credit to Kasper Schmeichel and his back four for a brilliant defensive display, there were a few scary moments during the game, so getting a clean sheet was magnificent, as it has been domestically all season, three goals against in eleven matches is close to perfection, I can’t remember a better start than that defensively. Once again Nick Walsh played his usual incompetent referee role, between him and his equally incompetent VAR official Don Robertson, he could have cost us the game. As early as ten minutes in Kilmarnock should have been down to ten men, Joe Wright’s elbow on Adam Idah was blatant, and deserved a red card, I don’t think it was even referred to VAR, it was the same with Donnelly’s attempted elbow on Kasper, no VAR intervention, but we did have one for Reo’s tackle on Donnelly, although they managed to get that one right, I think both the Adam and Kasper incidents may be part of Willie Collum’s next YouTube video.

It was that time of the year again yesterday when the “Poppy Fascists” feel enraged at Celtic Football Club and their Supporters. What is certain every year at this time is this, James Mc Clean will get dog’s abuse for not wearing a poppy, and some of the Celtic support will make some kind of protest, and get dog’s abuse, while in Govan they will be letting off big guns, soldiers will be abseiling down from the stands, and much sectarian singing will be heard from the stands full of serving members of the armed forces. Why do we continue with this? It’s divisive, and has nothing to do with respect, it should be kept away from football. We all know who shoved it onto Scottish Football, to take the heat from their singing of the abhorrent “Famine Song” in Celtic’s starting eleven yesterday, we had two Irish players, three Japanese players, and one German player. As James Mc Clean and many more have said, if it was to remember those who were killed in World War 1 & 2, there would be no protest. It was interesting to read Derek Mc Innes’s comments about the protest, he claimed it was Celtic who cut the minute’s silence short, he said “it’s our ground, and our minute’s silence” is it not for those who lost their life? does he think he’s still at Ibrox? In Scotland the powers that be are happy every summer to have sectarian parades walking past Catholic Churches with impunity, in Scotland, and I suspect all over the UK, at Remembrance Service’s the main celebrant will not be a Catholic Priest, did Catholic’s not die in the World War’s? in Scotland Sevco fans can wreck George Square whenever they feel like it, but when the Celtic Support have a joyful celebration and leave some litter behind its nation news, and a national disgrace. I think the Celtic Support contribute greatly to Scotland, maybe it’s time that was recognised.

Martin McCrum and his Committee in Craigneuk are trying to raise funds to erect a statue to local hero Celtic Legend and Lisbon Lion Tommy Gemmell. This is a community project and is for all the community to enjoy. At the present they are about £7,000 short, they hope to have the money raised by the end of the year, with the statue unveiling on May 25th next year. I will have a link to donate on site within the next couple of days.
Glasgow’s still Green & White.
