I note in the media that, since David Murray’s book is coming out some of the more prominent hack’s amongst the Scottish Ports Writers are trying to rewrite history, like James Traynor, Chick Young, Keith Jackson, and Hugh Keevins, I doubt very much James Traynor will be dining on “Succulent Lamb” now or Chick Young will be sitting down to a £100 bottle of wine with his dinner, those two are dinosaur’s, and consigned to the scrap heap of sports writers.
Keith Jackson and Hugh Keevins are still trying to make themselves relevant in the media, Murray would throw these Sycophants a bone now and then, and that would become their buzzword, Keevins claims that the “If Celtic put down a fiver, I’ll put down a tenner” phrase was given to him, along with a cheap bottle of wine I believe, while Jackson would have us believe that he had sussed out Craig Whyte before anyone else, what about his Daily Record headline that Whyte’s was a “Scot’s Billionaire” Jackson is trying to backtrack on that now, but the deed is done, and the evidence is in his own Daily Record archives.
The honest truth is, David Murray was a cheat, it’s alright talking about putting down a tenner to your fiver, if the tenner was never yours in the first place. Murray didn’t just cheat Celtic, he cheated every team in Scotland, and quite a few in Europe as well. I’m pretty sure if Celtic had been able to pay their players a salary that didn’t need a tax deduction, or national insurance, we could have attracted better quality of player, but then Chairman Brian Quinn refused to go down that route. The truth of the matter is this, each of the 120 Trophies won by Celtic Football Club, were won fairly and honestly on the field of play, and without any extra incentive from tax avoiding experts. Murray also stated that Peter Lawwell had too much influence in Scottish Football, and wanted to bury Oldco, I guess Peter got his way, because they died, so job well done Peter.
Great to see Benjaman Nygren has completed his move to Celtic, I believe the signing of a new striker, and at least one central defender is close, and if Nicolas Kuhn goes I would expect another wide player. I know every supporter want players in as soon as possible, but it doesn’t work that way now, the player’s agents determine when a deal goes through. When we signed Arne Engels last season, do you not think that his agent had contacted almost every big team in Europe, telling them what Celtic were offering, and asking if they could better that? That’s the way it works in most case, the Japanese market is different, and we have done well in that market so far, so expect a couple more from that part of the world.
Lisbon Lion, and Celtic Legend John Clark will have his final lap of honour at Celtic Park this Friday July 4th. The Requiem Mass for John will be celebrated at St Mary’s, Abercrombie Street at 12 noon, the cortege will then travel to Celtic Park before the committal. John Clark was a very humble and gentle man, he was immediately recognisable, John certainly got older, but he never changed, he was so friendly to everyone he met, nothing was a bother to John. When you see the antics of some of the modern day players, with their agents and fancy cars and girlfriends, John was the complete opposite. John signed his first contract with Celtic on the back of the dressing room door, no media frenzy, just a young Bhoy who was desperate to play for his heroes, Glasgow Celtic.
Requiescat in aeternum pace John Bhoy. They never die who live in the hearts they leave behind.
