The aim yesterday against Hibernian was to win and progress to the quarter final of the League Cup, so that target was achieved with a bit to spare. It was also a bonus to get a home tie in the quarter final, Falkirk are a decent side, and cannot be treated lightly, they have a good manager who will make it as difficult for Celtic as possible, and like yesterday, the only target is to win and reach the semi-final, I’m pretty confident that will be the outcome.
It was a strong display yesterday from the whole team, once again there were no failures, the only disappointment was losing our first goal of this season, having said that, it was a cracking header, which Jasper had no chance of saving. It was good to have Daizen Maeda back in the starting line-up, and even better that he contributed with two well taken goals. Nicolas Kuhn carried on with his good form as well, and made it three games in a row scoring goal’s. Next week we are away to St Mirren, again another tough place to go and win, but if we continue with our form we should have enough to come away with three points.
I really don’t know how Kevin Clancy continues to officiate at Premier League level, the guy lacks confidence in every match I see him at, he seems like a bag of nerves as soon as the game starts, top class players need to operate with top rate match officials, and what I see in Scotland, there are no top class officials, as is proven by the lack of Scottish Officials at International and Champions League level football. Yesterday we also had the inept Andrew Dallas on VAR, this guy was found to be not competent enough to referee top level games, but is deemed competent enough to make decisions that can decide the outcome of the game.
It was good to eventually get Adam Idah back on a permanent contract, it did cost a lot of money to secure the deal, but that’s the market we are dealing in, and if you really want the player, then that’s the asking price, but at 23 years’ old there is a lot of time for Adam to become an even better player, so it should be money well spent. We obviously still need another few players in, and some out as well. I spoke to Michael Nicholson on Friday, and he assures me they are working hard to improve the squad. And just to be clear, contrary to what some people would have you believe, Club Chairman Peter Lawwell has absolutely nothing to do with buying or selling players, that is the remit of the Manager to identify the players, and then for Michael Nicholson, and CFO Chris Mc Kay to arrange the financial side of the deal, absolutely nothing to do with the Chairman.
Michael Nicholson also made the decision to withhold a ticket allocation for the Glasgow Derby on September 1st from the new team from Govan, that was definitely 100% the correct decision, as I said last week, it was always about the safety of the Celtic Support, and the mob over there had done nothing to improve that since agreeing to do so. Celtic got the planning permission and purchased the safety nets at a cost of around £300,000, Sevco did what the always do, shut their eyes and hoped it would go away, well they found out they were dealing with real professional’s, unlike the comedians over their way “Same Circus, just different Clown’s”. is any Celtic Supporter confident anything will change this season?
Glasgow’s still Green and White.
