Great start to the season yesterday at the home of the Champions, the Famous Glasgow Celtic, a 4-0 win is always welcome, but it’s especially welcome when we play so well, in truth, we could have scored a few more goals, it could have been double figures, and we should have had a penalty when Mc Crorie clattered Kyogo. Willie Collum, the new head of Refereeing in Scotland said that he will improve the officials use of VAR, that remains to be seen, we seen the establishment club get the benefit of a hand ball incident on Saturday, which is fine, but only if the same criteria is used for all teams in the SPL.
It was a great team performance against Killie, there were no failures in the team, I wouldn’t disagree with Reo being named Man of the Match, but I think there were a few contenders for the award. Big Matt was once again outstanding, as was Callum and Kyogo, Jamsie Forrest continues to play to a very high standard, and Nicky Kuhn is beginning to look like a real great asset. We obviously still need a few more quality players into the squad, we need at least one, and probably two strikers, another centre half, and competition for Greg Taylor at left back. I’m happy with our middle three, I certainly wouldn’t want to lose Matt or Reo, we certainly can’t afford to lose both.
I know some of our supporters are a bit edgy about the lack of signings so far, I’m pretty relaxed about it, the mantra has always been to come out of the transfer window stronger than when we went into it, we are weaker at the moment because we don’t have Adam Idah, well not yet anyway. When you bring in an Elite Manager, then you have to have an elite playing squad, right now our squad is probably good enough to win the SPL, but only if everyone remained fit. We have to improve our European record and performance, we have to get back to the days when the best teams in Europe were coming to Celtic Park and getting beat. There were many scalps in the Celtic Locker, teams like Manchester United, Barcelona, Juventus, and Benfica, Pep’s all conquering Man City have beaten every team they’ve played at least once, except the Mighty Glasgow Celtic.
Credit where it’s due, it was a magnificent full stadium Tifo yesterday, so well done to the Green Brigade for all the hard work they put in to organising it. Celtic Park is famous throughout World Football for the atmosphere it generates, let’s continue with our 100% support for our Great Club, when we all stick together, we can beat any team on the planet, we’ve done it before, we can do it again. It brilliant seeing Lisbon Lion Legend Jim Craig unfurl our latest League Flat, great honour for a Great Man, and Celtic Legend.
Glasgow’s still Green & White.
