What a first half on Saturday at Celtic Park versus Ross County !!! that’s just about as good as it gets. There is always a chance of disruption in your consistency when you make a lot of changes to a winning team, so to make six changes was in some ways a gamble. Brendan obviously trusts the players he brought in, and they repaid that trust in spades, especially Luke Mc Cowan, who was outstanding, it gives Brendan a bit of thinking to do before Aberdeen on Wednesday night, I think at least a couple of the players who came in may retain their place.
I believe some Celtic fan was on a radio show on Saturday night complaining it was too easy, so he left at half-time, he must be new to this Celtic lark, he obviously wasn’t a Celtic supporter pre Brendan 01, he’s one who jumped on the Brendan bandwagon, and he’ll jump back off it when things aren’t going so well, I wonder if he has a ticket for Wednesday night at Aberdeen, of has he got one for the Cup Final in a couple of weeks, if he has, he should pass it on to a real Celtic Supporter.
Saturday was an outstanding display, and it came after a very difficult Champions League game against Brugge. I had said before the game that a point wouldn’t be a bad result, we’re always wanting to win the game, but the Champions League is a much higher standard than the SPL, and apart from the disaster that was Dortmund, it has been a decent first five matches. I’m not totally convinced that ten points would be enough to see us through to the playoff round, but I hope it is, and I fully expect us to surpass that target.
It’s been a great start to the season, I was looking at some stats comparing this season to the invincible season. It is equal in terms of games won, and one draw, we have scored one more goal this season. It’s the defensive side that differs, we have conceded seven less goals, and achieved ten clean sheets from thirteen matches, to only have lost four goals is remarkable, so take a bow, Kasper and his defenders, but as Brendan says, the defence starts from the strikers, so take a bow every player involved.
I’m looking forward to facing “The Sheep” on Wednesday night at the “Ewe Camp” it will be another test for us. Once again it will be a physical game, they will try to bully us, and that may influence the managers team selection. But whoever is picked I expect us to be too good for Aberdeen, while giving them the respect they deserve, they made a great start, but have slipped up in the last three games. In reality it’s a game we don’t have to win, we could sit in and take a draw, but that’s not the Celtic way, we will go there to win, and I’m pretty sure we will do just that.
Glasgow’s still Green & White
