As the people on the Tour of Celtic Park go around today, they will get to see an extra Trophy in the Celtic Boardroom, sitting alongside the Scottish Premier League Trophy, and the Scottish Cup, will be the Scottish League Cup. I wonder if the cleaners at Celtic Park get paid per trophy, they would be richer than Elon Musk, and it must cost the club a fortune purchasing the “Mr Sheen” every week. When serial winners, come up against serial losers, there is usually only one outcome, and that’s exactly what happened yesterday at the dump that is Hampden Park, the serial winners did what they always do, and won.
It was far from a classic game of football, and although we weren’t at our best, we were the team that tried to play good football, unlike the opposition, who played route one football all afternoon. It was a hit and hope game for Sevco, play the long ball and hope a Celtic player makes a mistake, and that happened for the first goal. Clement can moan all day long about not getting a dubious penalty, but Celtic had twice as much possession as his team. Of course along with his long ball tactics, we had the bully tactics, stop Celtic from playing fast dynamic football by any means necessary. That resulted in eight yellow cards for the Deid Club, as opposed to three for Celtic. I have to say as well, I thought John Beaton and his assistants were awful yesterday, Beaton let Sevco away with a lot of fouls, and only flashed his yellow cards after numerous offences by Sevco players, and the main stand assistant made some baffling decisions as well, I think it was stop Celtic winning at any cost. Those officials are just “Blatant Cheats”.
There was a never a time during the match when I thought we would lose, even after going a goal down in the first half. I always say that Brendan Rodgers is an elite manager, who reacts to different scenario’s, and he did it again yesterday, bringing Liam Scales on for Auston Trusty was a surprise, we all thought big Auston was injured, but Brendan said it was tactical, so fair play to him, because we started the second half on the front foot creating chances, and managed to score from two of those chances. You would have to say that the three goals we lost were preventable, and to let them equalise with three minutes to go was disappointing, but we got there in the end, even though it was via a penalty shootout, the Cup is still at Celtic Park.
I think we were all a bit surprised to see Daizen walking up to take the fifth and winning penalty, we had already seen the first four being taken by the expected takers, Adam, Arne, Callum, and Reo, so I was thinking maybe James Forrest, but well done Daizen, he tucked it away nicely, and it was five forward players that took the penalties, as is really how it should be anyway, unless you’ve got a Big Tam Gemmell or Mark Reid in your team.
You would have to say that Hampden Park is not fit for purpose, the SFA missed the boat, they should have bulldozed the stadium instead of upgrading it. They should have looked at a site on the outskirts of Glasgow and built a 75,000 seater stadium, with good transport connections to all parts of Scotland. It must have taken our bus about an hour to travel along Aikenhead Road to get to the M74, less than a mile, or at least put cops on points duty to clear the traffic, it only effects one set of supporters, and it was the ones who are always heading to the pub to celebrate winning another trophy, well not just another trophy, but actually our “One Hundred and Nineteenth Trophy” which according to some people is a “World Record” and therefore makes Celtic the “Most successful Football Team in the World”, I’m not so sure that’s the case, but what is certain is, we are the “Most successful Football Team in Scotland”, and even if you join the Oldco Rangers with the Newco Rangers, and all their cheating we’re still ahead.
Glasgow’s definitely Green & White.
