It’s great to get a wee break away from the football, but it soon becomes apparent that Celtic Football Club is a massive part of your daily life, and has been for over seventy years. I get up every morning wondering if we have signed anyone for the new season, but you soon realise it doesn’t really work that way, it’s not about which team sign a player at the earliest opportunity, it’s about which team sign the right player for their club, so if it takes a bit longer so be it, as long as we get the right player in the end. The mantra is always to come out of the transfer window stronger than when we went into it, it may take longer to get the player you want, but that’s better than signing a player that doesn’t fit in at Celtic.
Just as we supporters miss the football, the Scottish Sports Writers will miss it more, because they have nothing to write about, apart from the International Football, which for Scotland hasn’t been great recently, so there is not much positive stuff to write about, having said that, they don’t care, they only need to help to sell papers. And in Scotland the best way to sell papers is, to either write about Celtic in turmoil, or write about how wonderful Sevco are. In the last few days the hacks have been dragging up old team mates of Russel Martin to confirm how wonderful he is, and how he will be a great success over in Govan, well as the Undertaker says “Remains to be seen”
You would have to say Big Ange got a raw deal from Daniel Levy at Tottenham, after winning their first trophy in seventeen years, and first European trophy since 1984, their League position was drastic, but for a club who are not regular trophy winners, you would think that would have bought Ange at least another season, but not with Levy, he protects himself, irrespective of who else gets hurt. True to form again, the Scottish Sports Writers saw an opportunity to link Ange with a return to Celtic Park, which would suggest that Brendan was on the way out, again they try to sow the seeds of doubt in the Celtic Support. I would think if Brendan wanted to extend his contract at Celtic Park, then Dermot and the Board will be more than happy to approve the new contract., and the Celtic Support would welcome that decision.
We can now concentrate on improving our performance and results from last season, we are seeded for the play-off round of the Champions League, that should give us a more than decent chance of progressing to the group stages, and on again getting through to the play-off rounds. Our work at Celtic doesn’t stop with the close season, we are Celtic all day every day, no matter what part you play, and no matter how big or how small, that’s what makes us “More than a Football Club”
Glasgow’s still Green & White.
