Despite a price hike in the ticket price for the Celtic Support, we still managed to sell out our reduced allocation for Saturday’s Title Party at Tannadice Park. I believe Dundee Utd acted like a spiv selling Oasis tickets, and I can assure you this, they will be repaid in kind in future seasons. Even after reducing our allocation, and adding £8 per ticket, and also selling hospitality tickets to Celtic Supporters, they still failed miserably to sell out their own stands, and by time-up, there were very few United supporters still in the stadium. In fact, the grand exodus started after our second goal, that may have been the £10 ticket holders who didn’t have a ticket for Paisley, and got their ten quid’s worth by disrespecting the “Minutes Silence for his Holiness Pope Francis” that will also be repaid in the future, that’s if United has a future.
As for the game itself it was a breath-taking display of fast attacking football, and robust defending when it was required, both Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers were immense, as were AJ and Greg Taylor. Once again there were no failures in the team, including the subs. It was also brilliant to see Nicolas Kuhn back to his best and linking up with Daizen so effectively. It was a blow to lose Jota so early, but it gave Adam Idah the opportunity to play his part in the victory. And our magnificent captain just continues to excel, ably backed by Reo and Big Arne. I was particularly pleased for Luke Mc Cowan to get his hands on a medal, he had to sit out the League Cup Final earlier in the season, so it was nice for Luke to play his part. I think the whole Celtic Support were desperate for Jamsie Forrest to score in his sixteen successive season, I’m sure it will come before the end of the season.
It was a bit unusual, but I would have to give an assist to the first goal to the Green Brigade and The Bhoy’s behind the goal. Up until the introduction of the “Tangerines” into our box, we were struggling to get out of the same box, we just couldn’t get any passes going forward, then after we had the break to clear the tangerines off the pitch we went right up the park and scored the first goal, closely followed by the second and third, game over, another League Title in the bag. Inevitably the pace dropped a bit in the second half, even after Big Adam score the fourth, and then the fifth, all that was left to do was to manage the game, and of course get Jamsie the goal he so richly deserves. We have got so used to celebrating winning trophies at Celtic, but we will never get tired of winning and celebrating, it has cost us some money in the last nine seasons, but it was worth every penny.
We need to go to “Snake Mountain” on Sunday and continue the celebrations, by beating them. Just play in the Celtic way, the pressure is off, the new focus in on completing the treble, we can win this season the same amount of trophies that the Newco have won since its inception in 2012, and 22 trophies out of the 27 available to us. No team anywhere has had that kind of domination, that would be six trebles in the nine years, even the great Real Madrid and Barcelona teams were never that successful. That would also be an incredible 121 trophies won, certainly the most successful in Europe, as I’ve said before, imagine how many we would have won with a level playing field and honest referees. Even the Deid Club with their EBT’s didn’t manage to dominate us like that. So on top of completing the Ninth Treble, we should be doing all we can to get Brendan to sign an extension to his contract, whatever it takes make that happen. Then we can look forward to a relaxing close season, recharge the batteries, refresh the squad, and go again, aiming for Ten Trebles.
As Daizen said at Celtic Park on Saturday. Glasgow’s Green. The celebrations continue.
