It’s not very often you get to go up the A9 to Aberdeen in bright sunshine, so yesterday afternoon was a pleasant and welcome surprise. The one holdup was the brand new roundabout at the approach to Dundee, the old saying springs to mind “If it aint broke, don’t fix it” but hey, this is Scotland, which has probably the worst road infrastructure in Europe, so by adding the brand new roundabout, they have created a traffic holdup where none had previously existed.
It was funny to see so many Celtic Supporters exiting from the buses dressed in shorts, this was Aberdeen on the edge of the North Sea, they don’t do warm hot sunny days in Aberdeen. As an old campaigner in attending Pittodrie I didn’t fall into the trap, I also spent quite a few years working on the oil rigs, so I was prepared for the cold wind swirling around the stadium, but the chill in the air didn’t stop the Celtic Whirlwind from performing at its best.
I must confess I was a little concerned when I heard the team, you could argue that Callum Mc Gregor was the only player guaranteed to start in the Cup Final next Saturday, but you would have to say, Jamsie Forrest was outstanding, and may have played his way into the starting line-up with his performance last night, as did a couple of others. Big Rocki had another good game, and scored, Luke Mc Cowan scored and had two assists, and Big Adam got his twentieth goal of a season that he hasn’t started many games in. James Forrest made three goals, and did everything but score, every one of the Celtic players and supporters were desperate for him to score, let’s hope it comes in the next two games, Jamsie has been a real “Celtic Legend”.
As I expected Aberdeen were very physical last night, and as expected referee Steven Mc Lean turned a blind eye to most of it. The attack on Reo Hatate was unnecessary and dangerous, and I believe should have resulted in a red card for Pape Gueye, Mc Lean finds it hard to mask his hatred of all things Celtic, hopefully we won’t see him refereeing our games again this season, and even better permanently. It was quite strange to look at our team last night, it appeared that our bench was stronger than the team on the park, but to be fair, the team that started the game did brilliantly to perform at such a high level, especially as a lot of them didn’t have a lot of game time under their belts.
So it’s on to Saturday and Trophy Day once again at the home of the Champions, “The Famous Glasgow Celtic” this has become a regular yearly celebration for the Celtic Faithful, and hopefully we will see another great performance against St Mirren, and more records created. I look forward to Celtic Park basking in the sunlight beating down on the Famous Green & White. Finally, I was not surprised to see that the mighty Aberdeen supporters failed to fill their sections at Pittodrie last night, all the bluster about the red army marching to Hampden next Saturday, the ones who bought tickets may be down at the stadium this morning asking for their money back.
Glasgow’s still Green & White.
