Yesterday at Snake Mountain was not a must win game, but it was certainly a must not lose game, Wednesday night now becomes the next must win game, a victory at Aberdeen would put us into second place, and puts a bit of pressure on Hearts. Both Sevco and their cousins from the east have to come to Celtic Park, and they play each other at Tynecastle, and the way Motherwell are playing, they could decide where the title ends up, but in reality, anything could happen in this chaotic season.
The Celtic Support were magnificent yesterday at the Bigotdome, and played a big part in rescuing a point. If people agree that our support was great, wait until next week when we occupy the whole Broomloan Road Stand, the noise will be deafening, and we can do away with our supporters standing around in the rain for over two hours, the most farcical situation in football, I don’t think you will see that in any other football situation, and all because the Govan Mob couldn’t take getting skudded off Celtic on a regular basis.
We should know by now the way Oldco play against us, it’s the same every game, get the ball into the Celtic half as quickly as possible, route one anti-football. They seem to be going down the route of signing big tall players, then playing with the ball in the air, so it’s all about set pieces, corners, free kick’s, and long throw’s, and to be honest, we are not great at winning aerial duels. In both boxes you have to win the first contact, and then the second as well, we seem to struggle with doing that, the two goals we lost yesterday were very poor from a defensive point of view. Take nothing away from Chermiti, his first goal was brilliant, and at the second Julian was poor, at both goals our two central defenders got sucked to the near post, leaving the back door open, they had two big strikers, Murray and Scales should have picked one each, and stuck to marking them, instead of just chasing the ball.
After a disastrous first half we played very well in the second half, and should have won the game at the end, I thought Reo did great when he came on, but someone needs to tell him he is hopeless at taking penalties, Seb and Luke did well also, Luke could have repeated his goal in Stuttgart, but the keeper just managed to smother his attempt. I’m not sure Martin has worked out his best team yet, and I’m surprised he’s not went 4-4-2 before now, we get outnumbered in midfield every week, that lets the opposition swamp Callum to stop him dictating the game. We now move on to the Ewe Camp and hopefully a good victory, before the return to Snake Mountain next Sunday, and hopefully another victory for the Champions.
I had the great honour on Saturday afternoon of attending the unveiling of the Statue to Lisbon Lion Tommy Gemmell in his hometown of Craignuek. The statue looks brilliant, and big congratulation to Martin Mc Crum and his Committee of the Tommy Gemmell Community Project, they have done a wonderful job getting the project completed. Martin O’Neill gave a brilliant speech before the unveiling by Tommy’s wife Mary and his Daughter Karen. There was a great turnout of ex-Celts, including Roy Aitken, Tom Boyd, George Mc Cluskey, Mick Conroy, Joe Miller, Jim Craig and Peter Grant, unfortunately Danny Mc Grain was unwell and unable to make it, but his great friend Tony Roper did. There was a big crowd of Celtic Supporters and local residents present, so it was a fitting tribute to Big Tommy. Get along and visit the statue if you get the chance.
Glasgow’s still Green & White.
