Well it took longer than we wanted, but Wilfried eventually got the victory we all craved for, let’s hope that we can now go on a run of victories, and get ourselves back on top of the League. Wednesday night at Tannadice was horrible, we should have been four up by half time, and could have scored seven on another night, it tells you that you have to take your chances when you are on top and dominating the game, some of the misses were hard to believe, and we paid the penalty by losing the game. We certainly need to do better when defending corners, a corner now seems like a penalty against us, we need to get some height in the team, we sure are missing CCV and Ali Johnston, and even more so Jota.
Back to yesterday, it was a good all round performance, apart from the goal we lost which could have been prevented. Again our attacking play was good, and we could have scored more, hitting the woodwork three times, it can come down to inches when that happens. It was good to see Benjamin Nygren back on the scoresheet again, I really like the way he manages to find space around the box, if you don’t find that space you don’t get to score goals. We had thirty-one shots at goal, ten on target, which is a lot better than the previous four games, and I have to say, with the chances we made, we should have won three of the four, Roma are at a higher level than us right now, but hopefully we can get back to that level soon.
We now face two difficult away games at Livingston and Motherwell, you know what you get at both these grounds, physical games with the ball up in the air a lot, especially at Livingston. Then we welcome the Forces of Darkness to Celtic Park on January 3rd, the target has to be nine points from the three games, we must get back to the mentality of winning every game we play, that is the Celtic Way, and it’s the only way to guarantee success. We have already given away the first trophy of the season against St Mirren, let’s make sure win the next two trophies. Three points against Utrecht should see us through to the knock out stages in Europe, and if we can something from Bologna, all the better.
Let me take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy & Healthy Christmas, and a Champion New Year. Glasgow will always be Green & White.
