Another poor showing yesterday. There is still a lot to play for, and to play the Glasgow Celtic Way.

Yesterday was a hard watch again, I don’t know what is causing it, but there is a malaise around our club just now, and it’s affecting everyone connected to it. We certainly haven’t started the season well, at home or in Europe, we are yet to lose a goal in the League, but we’re for sure not scoring the amount of goals we would normally expect. There seems to be a lack of energy, determination and urgency in the team, that needs rectified immediately, 100% commitment is the least we should expect.

The two games against FC Kairat were embarrassing, to play 210 minutes against a team so lowly ranked is unacceptable for a club the size of Celtic, and so it should be, we were poor in the home tie but had the chance to redeem ourselves in the away tie, and failed miserably. We couldn’t beat a team that didn’t want to win, Kairat were playing for penalties from kick-off at Celtic Park, they had a plan, and we didn’t react to it. The game yesterday at Snake Mountain was very similar, an absolute bore fest.

Our game has always been based on speed and aggression going forward, we were pedestrian once again yesterday, Brendan can talk about keeping possession and re-routing the point of attack, but all we do is give the opposing team time to get all their players back into a defensive position. We need to be braver when in possession, we need to play the ball forward quicker, two shots on target is not what we should be about, you would think the players are told not to shoot from outside the box, what would we do for a Tommy Gemmell or Bobby Murdoch now, or Thommo for that matter.

Today is massive for us now, we must at all cost get some more quality players into the squad, the big problem is that the selling teams know how desperate we are now, so the price will certainly rise. I’ve asked the question already, what is the exact process of us signing a player? And I mean right from the beginning, I’m reading reports in the media that Oh has went to Stuttgart for €28 million, how could he not get a game for us, especially not when we are crying out for a natural goal scoring centre forward?

There is still a lot to play for this season, we want to be in the Champions League, sadly that ship has sailed, so we need to make the most of where we are now. There is also a domestic treble to play for, we have won thirteen of the last fourteen League Titles, that must continue, and after throwing away the opportunity to win World Record ninth title, we must aim to do that this season. Let’s get some good business done today, both in and out, let’s make use of the International break to get the players tuned up and switched on, and let’s go on a run from now to the end of the season, playing fast attacking football in all competitions., and “Play Football the Glasgow Celtic Way”
Glasgow’s still Green & White.
