For The Good of Scottish Football

Postby franton » Mon Feb 16, 2015 12:41 pm

There is no use Scottish football fans bemoaning the lack of investment in the Scottish Game here as being derisory, by Sky TV and other companies. The fans have to get out there themselves and show there is an active interest in the Game here. That way big companies will provide sponsorship on shirts, trophies and billboards etc. in order to reach the Scottish football audience. The product here is good, but it could be a lot better!
A cup game or "Six Pointer" in the league shown on Alba recently proved that. Two teams, both going for the win provided as much entertainment that any one game could possibly provide. Queen of the South won 4-3 or 3-2, over Cowdenbeath with a goal right at the death, after having had a man sent off earlier. Ther was also a penalty as well, I recall?
You couldn't help but sit and watch the game right to the end, even as a neutral. So the product is definetely there. The problem is that there is not the same public participation in spectator football. as there once was.
That is why it was right for Fergus McCann to urge Celtic fans to turn up at "Paradise" each week to see and support their team. By doing so, they create a "Buzz" artound the Game, which draws in the Big Money investors.
Celtic fans by and large do this very well. The travelling Celtic fans are magnificent for Celtic and for Scottish football. Carrying perhaps three to four thousand fand to most away games, these fans are the life-blood of Scottish Football and provide badly needed revenue for other Scottish Clubs. The interest that there is in Celtic away matches ensures that TV companies cover these games on the telly. The game against Inter Milan on Thursday is a sell-out and Celtic Park will be full for another European Game and there will be a great atmosphere inside the Park. That shows the interest is there. So why are these fans unable to turn out for domestic home games? What else is there to do week by week through the dreary Scottish winter. Following Celtic Football Club provides excitement with skill, passion, interest and of course glory! In my opinon Ronnie Deila provides a "Breath of Fresh Air" for Scottish Football. He has up to date methods and ideas which are producing fruit " On the Field" in only his first (half) season; Celtic are still in with a (you have to say "Realistic") chance of four trophies in the "Business" half of the season. And we are playing high tempo, quick, exciting, attacking football.
If, as Ronnie says, we improve the pitches, some of which are disgraceful, and also the training facilities, then there is no reason why Scottish football could some time in the future be at the fore-front in the football world again. As always, it pays to be an optimist! Hail Hail!
