I attended, along with the President and Vice President the party to celebrate the 100th birthday of John Thomson. The night started in Bowhil cemetery, after the piper had played a few laments, and the minister and priest had said a few words, wreaths were laid at the grave the first one was laid by Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, this was followed by wreaths from the Association, Lisbon Lions Bertie Auld and John Fallon, the Lochgelly, Ballingry and Kirkcaldy Celtic supporters clubs, plus a few others, after some speeches at the grave we proceeded to the local miners club for the remainder of the celebrations.
The backdrop to the stage was a fantastic banner produced by the Junglebhoys, this was donated to the committee to keep, the social night started with a welcome from Alex Burns, and a thank you to everone who had contributed to the event, the kids from Cardenden Primary school then sang a couple of John Thomson songs, and very good they were too.
Peter Lawwell addressed the audience, he expressed his gratitude to the local community for keeping alive the memory of John, and assured everyone that Celtic FC would do the same, he presented an autographed Artur Boruc jersey to Alex, and Alex reciprocated by presenting a bust of John to Peter, it will go on display at the memorial to John at Celtic park.
Before the band came on to play, the Association presented a scoll to the committee, also a silver salver, and a special engraved decanter to Alex Burns for his unstinting dedication to the memory of John Thomson, we also would congratulate and thank Mark Camron and the rest of the committee for their contribution.
The local MP and MSP were also present with a number of community leaders, we would also thank them along with the general population of the area, John would have been vey proud
