CSA Statement re Motherwell.

Postby Joe O'Rourke » Mon Dec 09, 2013 12:52 pm

The CSA held their AGM yesterday afternoon, once the normal process of passing the accounts and the election of the Executive Committee was concluded; we had a debate on the events of Friday night’s match at Fir Park Motherwell.

There was a lengthy discussion and every branch present was giving ample time to voice their opinions.

The conclusion of the discussion is that the CSA would like to make the following comments.

We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.

Our great reputation was gained by generations of Celtic Supporters; it cannot continue to be tarnished by people who I don’t recognise as true Celtic Supporters.

One thing I found confusing on Friday night was the absence of Police Officers in front of the Celtic supporters behind the goal, it was only security stewards who were there; and they didn’t seem to want to get involved.

We would say to the people who are involved in the above actions, to cease with immediate effect. The unified support of our team is essential if we want to continue to be a successful Football Club.

Maybe this will be a watershed moment for our supporters. We have much to be pleased and proud about with our great Football Club. Let us all get back to being recognised as being amongst the greatest supporters in the world.
